Remembering Fred Nesler

As we remember and celebrate the life of Fred Nesler, we invite all who knew and loved him to share photos, videos, stories, and special memories here on the Tribute Wall. Fred lived a life centered on faith, family, friendship, and service to others, and one of the greatest gifts we can give is to preserve and share the moments that made him so special to so many.

Whether you knew him through family gatherings, church, the community, his years of public service, a shared meal of his famous beans and cornbread, or simply as “Your friend, Fred,” we would love for you to help us honor his memory by sharing your stories and pictures. Every memory shared is a reminder of the lives he touched and the love he leaves behind.

  • I will never forget Fred as a Friend! The day I gained Respect for Fred was when he introduced me to James Comer. At the Fair Grounds at a James R Cash auction. Fred being a Democrat and Comer a Republican. Help me understand that yes you can of another party affiliation and step across that line! I also remember being at Fritos Grocery. I was gathering signatures as an Independent to gain access to the November ballot. Fred asked what I was doing I told him. He said let me see it. He proceeded to sign it. Then several others sitting there signed it. Fred and I did not agree on everything but he always told me Danny Foy in that deep growl of a voice. We don’t agree on everything but we are going to still be friends. That is what I admired about my Friend Fred Nesler! RIP My Friend!!!

  • There are some people whose hospitality goes far beyond opening a door—it opens a heart. That was Fred Nesler.

I spent many long nights working alongside Tammy, often staying at their home, and somehow Fred always made sure I was cared for like family. We would come home to elaborate dinners waiting for us and wake up to homemade sausage and biscuits that could rival any country breakfast around. He truly ran the best bed and breakfast a girl could ever hope for, lol! ????

Every morning there would be notes left on the counter in his trademark blue felt pen telling us to have a great day—though Tammy’s notes were usually a little more lovey-dovey. And if Tammy and I stayed up too late talking, laughing, or working, eventually we’d hear that unmistakable holler from another room: “Yeeeeeepppppp!” That was Fred’s way of saying lights out, girls.

If you knew Fred, then you knew warmth, generosity, humor, and the kind of hospitality that made you feel safe and welcome. His home became my home away from home. I was sheltered, pampered, appreciated, and loved there. My presence as his wife’s friend was never merely tolerated—it was embraced. Somehow, without even realizing it, I became part of the family.

That was Fred’s gift. He made people feel like they belonged. And anyone fortunate enough to experience the hospitality that was Fred Nesler will never forget it. I know I won’t!
