CELEBRATING MAMA ALADESANMI @90
Dear Mama Grace Aladesanmi,
Your life of dedication,discipline,hardwork,excellence,integrity,service to God and humanity and especially your impact in the teaching profession is a very exemplary one worth writing about.You are a living example and witness to the truth that a teacher's reward actually begins right here on earth but is to be crowned in heaven(Proverbs 11:31;Matthew 5:19).
So evidently,the gracious God has rewarded you with His manifold grace as you have embodied by your name and person.The rich blessings of a godly heritage,great family values,a privileged education,an accomplished teaching career,a fruitful married life,sound health and beauty in old age,longevity,a close-knit extended and nuclear family life blessed with accomplished children,grand children,great grandchildren and other good things of life such as all the money in this world can't buy.Indeed,you have proved that "it pays to be a teacher."
As a pupil who passed through your tutorial back then in my formative years,you helped me and my brother to lay a solid foundation in our educational development by teaching us the "3Rs of basic education"- Reading,wRiting & aRithmetic.As a disciplinarian to the core,an educator par excellence,you emphasized the cultivation of good character,manners and discipline in students.
Aside from education,I recall also that at the beginning of my walk with Lord Jesus Christ,as a young believer,that God used you as a vessel to teach me at the membership foundation class in Chapel of Glory Church.You were higly instrumental to my obtaining the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of the gift of speaking with new tongues.
As I reflected upon your life,mama,I am glad that you have tried to document some of your life stories,sojourns in the teaching profession and remarkable contributions to the educational growth and development of your community and the Church in a book titled,"Grace:Celebrating 60 years of excellence and integrity in teaching."I hope to see that book updated,upgraded and authorized into a full-blown autobiography that will serve as a "reference" for generations to come.
So Mama Aladesanmi as you clock 90 at this time and season of the celebration of both the Feast of Passover and Easter,may your "youth" be renewed as the eagles by the resurrection power of Christ.May His blood preserve your soul in life to still be fresh and fruitful,relevant and robust in health even at old age.And If the Lord Jesus tarries and wills,by faith,we shall gather again to celebrate you at 100,110 ...120 years as prescribed in Genesis 6:3.The younger generation needs your great wealth of wisdom,knowledge and experience for her guidance.

Mummy L ‘ Oyekan is a living legend. Mummy is a matriarch in every sense whose moral rectitude, integrity, and application of discipline has remained consistent through the decades as have her faith in God and an unbending committment to educational excellence.
Who can forget the handwriting emphasis. The lessons… the firmness ehn required and soft words when appropriate.
ah, who can forget mummy’s beans with plantains, cooked to almost melting point… oh yes I do remember. Those were formative years and inputs that stayed with anyone who passed through Mummy.
It is only fitting that such a person lives a long and productive life. And we are grateful to God for this day and for his faithfulness over the years. We love you today as we always did and always will.

Mummy Fisayo as I knew her since our paths crossed courtesy my newest extra brilliant classmate Fisayo, the first impression I got was a strict no nonsense mother and it turned out so, I was privileged to have been mothered by her. I think my greatest gift from her was the opportunity to have my 3 children pass through her school in their foundation years and what a foundation that was. They grew up into academic superstars and examples of sound character We celebrate you today ma and want to tell you that a part of you will forever be in us. Birthday Tribute/Greetings to an outstanding role model - Sister Grace Aladesanmi.
I recall even though, I was barely 5yrs old, meeting my indefatigable sister Grace as Ms Meshida about 70+years ago at the Vicarage of the St Stephen’s Anglican Church Ondo. Sister was one of the first set of young ladies being trained for modern school education in Ondo/Benin Anglican Diocese.Their hostel was next door to the Vicar’s, Rev. Canon D.O Awosika, my father. So being an inquisitive little girl,always asking sometimes impossible questions which the ladies particularly Sister Grace find it fun to answer. So i became every body’s little sister teaching me new things everyday. They spoilt me in many ways but I was the better for this early mentoring. I’m not surprised that Sister not only became a great educationist, a mentor to many including her siblings,her own lovely children and her community.
Yinka Mesida (her late younger sister)and i became classmate and housemate at St Anne’s school Molete Ibadan (1954/1958 set). We cliqued immediately just as sister Grace and I did in Ondo in the mid -1940s. Yinka was also very clever,active and disciplined all rounder. She rose to become house captain. Surely,she must have been mentored well by Sister. Sister Grace, you not only mentored us your young admirers, I observed that even in your retirement years, you were active in Community Development work at Isolo LDCA and you never stopped reading and keeping up interest in the local and international affairs. This is quite a challenge to us. As the Yoruba says, sister, a a ma ri yin Ba o(we shall always look up to you) Aku Odun Eni O. Agba yin a tunbo di ale O. Amin loruko Jesu. Your children and grandchildren shall rise up and continue to call you blessed. Happy birthday ma, God bless you.
