Thank you for being here. Please share any photos and memories in celebration of Donna’s life.
I often think of Donna’s short film of women on a bicycle ride--just freewheeling down a lane to the sound of French chanteuse. That’s how I always understoofd her. I loved working with and for Donna, as she made each project feel like a celebration of life and the creative impulse, enthusiastically biting off a bit more than she could chew, and somehow still pulling it all off. She was a ever a mentor, sharing the secrets of storytelling and the desire to tell stories. It was a delight to have known her for 25 years
My mother-in-law was fierce and poured herself into everything and everyone around her. I met her in 2015, toward the later end of her filmmaking career, but I still caught glimpses of her drive, her work ethic, and her many big ideas, all of which imagined, in some way, a better world. Anything was possible with her. Being the practical person that I am, I didn’t always recognize the beauty in that at the time, but I celebrate it today and draw inspiration from it to share with our kids. I appreciated her care for each person in her life. She was a bit of a troublemaker, as we all know — but when it came to showing up for someone, she was always there, thoughtfully celebrating the person in front of her. I remember having a small group photography show in Brooklyn once, with a handful of other artists - nothing big or important. But she made it feel important. She treated me as if I were debuting at a major gallery. I’ll never forget that. She was so generous with her attention. That stands out most to me. She liked that I called her Mom. I liked it too, because it softened the edges our relationship and brought us closer and it made more hugs happen. Getting to sit by her bedside with her daughter — my wife — in the final days was a great honor. I truly believe her dementia dissolved in those final hours, allowing her a true clarity and courage as she traveled on, peacefully and in joy. Love you Mom!
Donna was truly one-of-a-kind with a passion for writing and big goals and accomplishments. I am fortunate to have known her. XXO
Sending love to you on your journey onward Donna and to all of your loved ones grieving you. I always appreciated your warmth and enthusiasm. You raised an amazing daughter who I am blessed to call my friend. You will be missed xo

I remember the many hours we spent together at Le Pain Quotidien, sitting over coffee, talking endlessly about French films and literature. We exchanged notes about the places we loved, the streets and cafés of Paris, and the artists who inspired us. Those conversations were not just about cinema, they were about life, art, and the kind of world we hoped to inhabit.
Over time, we discovered that our connection extended beyond film. We shared a spiritual path through Buddhism and a deep concern for the environment and the fragile beauty of this planet. Out of that shared commitment, we founded Green Focus Films together. We traveled across the United States, making films for organizations such as the Department of Energy and NASA, projects that brought together our love of storytelling and our desire to contribute to a more conscious world.
Our friendship was also filled with moments of adventures of the soul. We went on Buddhist retreats together and wandered in search of the most beautiful hot springs in Santa Fe while on film shoots. At one point, you even showed up during my artist residency in the south of France and camped on the property, turning those days into a small adventure. We biked through the countryside and discovered villages and ancient sites in the Dordogne region—a place you've always dreamed of living. You were there supporting me when I represented Grenada, the country of my birth, at the Venice Biennale in 2019. Those journeys and moments remain some of my most cherished memories of our friendship.
When you were making your first film in Paris, we rented a house together there, and I had the joy of working as the production designer on that project. Later, when I made my first film, Absence of Love, you became my producer. You believed in my vision as an artist and filmmaker at a time when belief meant everything. Your faith in me was a gift I will carry for the rest of my life.
Donna was not only a collaborator, she was also a dear friend, a supporter, and truly like a sister to me. Her generosity of spirit, her curiosity about the world, and her dedication to meaningful storytelling touched so many lives.
I will forever be grateful for her friendship, her love, and the many journeys we shared.
Donna, may your path be filled with light.
May you travel onward with peace, clarity, and the blessings of the Dharma.
